Nationals symbols of Ukraine
The official coat of arms of Ukraine is a golden trident on an azure background. As a state emblem, the trident dates back to Kievan Rus – when it was the coat of arms of the Riuryk dynasty. Some interpret the Trident symbol as the tip of a weapon, others a preying falcon, an arched bow with arrow or the Holy Trinity.

The Ukrainian flag
Is composed of two equal horizontal bands of azure and golden yellow colors. It represents ripe wheat growing under the blue sky. The combination of blue and yellow has represented water and fire since pagan times.

The National Currency
Hryvna, (UHR) – was introduced in September, 1996. There are bills for 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 100 and 200 Hryvnias. Kopiyka: 1 Hryvna = 100 kopiykas. There are coins for 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, and 50 kopiykas.

Geographical position

Ukraine is a state in Eastern Europe, bounded on the north by Belarus (952 km), on the northeast by the Russian Federation (2,484 km), on the west by Poland (542 km) and Slovakia (98 km), and on the south-west by Hungary (135 km), Romania (608 km), and Moldova (1,194 km). The state border extends for a total of 7,698 km, and the length of Ukraine's seacoast is 1,758 km.

Ukraine is the biggest country in Europe (after Russia). It is divided into 24 regions (oblasts) and an Autonomous Republic of Crimea. The country has an access to the Black Sea and the Azov Sea and two mountain-sides: Carpathians in the West and the Crimean Mountains in the South.
The main river of Ukraine is Dnipro.

Voting qualifications are 18 and older.
A nationally elected presidency was instituted on December 1, 1991. Ukrainian citizens elect the president for a five-year term. The head of the state appoints the prime minister and the cabinet, which Verkhovna Rada has to approve.

Climate
Ukraine is located in the temperate climatic zone. The climate is mainly moderate-continental. The average temperatures are the following:
winter: from -8 ° to +2 ° C (17.6 ° to 35.6 ° F)
summer: from +17 ° to +25 ° C (62.6 ° to 77° F)
The subtropical climate prevails in the South of Ukraine (Crimea, Southern coast of the Black Sea).
